SAN FRANCISCO–Today, Thumbtack launched 30 new features to help easily navigate the cost and complexity of owning a home. The personalized app provides guidance on what projects to do, when to do them, and who to hire to accomplish more. At a time when 68 percent say they procrastinate on home projects because they feel overwhelmed, Thumbtack wants to simplify the process and empower homeowners to take action with confidence.
“Two things are true about today’s homeowners: they plan to stay and invest in their homes for decades, yet they delay essential upkeep and value-add improvements because they don’t know where to start,” said Marco Zappacosta, co-founder and CEO of Thumbtack. “This digitally native generation wants to manage their homes the way they run the rest of their lives — on their phones. Our all-in-one app brings the support and peace of mind homeowners need.”
Thumbtack’s one app for your home is the biggest update in the product’s history. Homeowners can better understand their individual home’s needs, set customized goals, get step-by-step project guidance, and have a single place to prioritize and manage repair, maintenance, and improvement plans. Everything is built on top of Thumbtack’s Instant Book e-commerce engine connecting with a community of 300,000 skilled home professionals. Highlights of the new app include:
- Home Profile: A digital record that encompasses your home’s essential details (address, features, and systems) alongside the ability to set individual home goals. Once created, it provides AI-driven suggestions, such as seasonal and weather-based recommendations.
- Seasonal Upkeep Guides: Tailored step-by-step guidance on essential maintenance projects season by season to keep your home running smoothly, and avoid costly emergencies. Based on insights from 80 million projects, these include routine care like “Service HVAC” and options based on your specific home, its systems, and location like “Aerate Lawn” or “Gutter Cleaning.”
- Goal-based Guides: More than 15 guides like “Curb Appeal,” “Baby Proofing,” and “Energy Efficiency” provide customized project recommendations and informative ‘did you know’ insights to achieve your goals and enhance your home’s value. Guides are so effective that they accounted for 80 percent of projects planned during early testing.
- Actionable Plans: One consolidated place to prioritize and manage all your home upkeep, repair, and improvement projects — Thumbtack, “Do It Yourself,” and third-party. Set reminders, track progress, and gain insights on the value of each project. Evaluate seasonal pricing to find the best time to do a project and compare DIY vs. hire a pro options with estimated timelines, costs, and materials.
- AI-powered Search: Simply tell us the problem you’re facing, and we leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to find the right solution. For example, if you search “my sprinklers are behaving oddly and aren’t that strong,” we’ll connect you with the right lawn care pros who can get your job done.
- Instant Book: Once you know what to do and when to do it through guides and plans, you can then get all of your projects done with the touch of a button. Choose your own pro and book projects in seconds with service businesses across more than 100 categories from roofers and electricians to landscapers and organizers.
- Your Team: Conveniently stay in touch with your favorite pros with one-click rebooking, reviews, referrals, and messaging. This virtual word of mouth tool lets you easily share them with friends, family, and your community like realtors, renters, or neighbors.
“Thumbtack has changed how I tackle home projects — it’s like having a personal project assistant who makes organizing a breeze,” said Brandon Harris, a Thumbtack customer who was part of early testing. “The plans feature helps me keep an eye on everything and is like having a property manager in my pocket to remind me about my upcoming tasks.”
“For the first time we’re delivering a customized how-to manual for your home alongside our book now button to create the first all-in-one personalized home app,” said Zappacosta. “On the heels of our best year yet, this transformational launch is key to consolidating the fragmented home services industry, a $600 billion market that’s still less than 10% online.”
An overwhelming 88% of homeowners want an app to care for their homes. To move past procrastination and get more done, download the free Thumbtack app available now on iOS and rolling out to Android in the coming months.
